Staff Accountant

Part-Time or Full-Time

Gordon Keeter Nichols is seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Staff Accountant to join our growing team. The ideal candidate enjoys working with numbers, values accuracy, and is committed to providing exceptional service to our clients.

Responsibilities

As a staff accountant, you will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring clients meet critical financial deadlines. Responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial records for multiple clients.
  • Managing and meeting deadlines for:
    • Payroll processing
    • Sales and use tax filings
    • Monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting
  • Reconciling balance sheet accounts, including:
    • Bank and cash accounts
    • Accounts receivable
    • Accounts payable
    • Credit card accounts
    • Loan and financing accounts
  • Preparing and posting adjusting journal entries.
  • Reviewing financial information for accuracy and resolving discrepancies.
  • Assisting with month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Supporting tax preparation and year-end accounting activities.
  • Collaborating with clients to obtain financial information and documentation.
  • Communicating professionally with clients, vendors, and team members.
  • Maintaining strict confidentiality of sensitive financial information.
  • Following established accounting procedures and ensuring compliance with firm and client requirements.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will be organized, dependable, and committed to delivering exceptional client service. Preferred qualifications include:

  • Strong understanding of accounting fundamentals, including trial balances, general ledger activity, and debits and credits.
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and prioritization skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple clients across a variety of industries and business structures.
  • Experience working with and importing data from various accounting systems and file formats.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify discrepancies and prepare correcting entries.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information professionally.
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting preferred, but not required.
  • Prior bookkeeping or accounting experience preferred.
